If you have a bad EGR cooler, you would find a black gooey mess in the valve. The black gooey mess is caused by the hot coolant interacting with the hot exhaust and literally steam cleaning your EGR valve. If you have ANY of these 3 symptoms, it is a strong indicator that you have a leaking EGR cooler.

Other common problems could be leaks in the hoses to that sensor or a hole in the steel EGR tube that goes from the exhaust manifold to the EGR valve.

I have ordered some EGR cleaner that you spray into the intake as the valve is located next to the gearbox linkage so there's no way to easily access it without having 5ft long arms made of elastic; otherwise I would attempt to clean the valve properly.
Ford updated stand pipes for all 2004-2007 Ford 6.0 engines. The old style rail plugs were prone to o-ring failure. Symptoms are loss of ICP pressures which can cause no start or stalling. It's also sometimes misdiagnosed as a bad IPR valve or HPOP. These have been updated with a back up PTFE washer. Priced per piece.
Volvo p042e & p049c Been having lots of problems with my 1.6 diesel Volvo V 70 I think it has the Ford PSA engine. The codes that keep coming up are p042e & p049c, I have replaced the EGR valve, (the old one was nice and clean) and also the DPFE sensor and also replaced the DPFE hoses.
